Capturing a Personality of a Senior
Updated: May 9, 2023
As a photographer, I always strive to capture the unique personality of each of my clients. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a Senior who had just graduated from grad school. I wanted to create a photoshoot that reflected her individuality and celebrated her achievement.
The first thing I said to her was "YOLO! You just graduated! When will you ever have a better time to get photos done?" I truly believe that any age is beautiful, but there's something special about capturing the youthful, sexy, and confident energy of someone who has just accomplished something amazing.
We then talked about her personality and what she gravitated towards. She expressed not only that she had gone through some hardships during grad school, but had overcoming them to get to the point she finally did. We decided to go for a moody vibe for this photoshoot, as it reflected her journey and struggles.
To create this moody vibe, I used darker tones and more dramatic lighting. This allowed us to capture a more contemplative and introspective mood. However, since my personal photography style leans towards a more natural look, I also incorporated subtle drapery in the backdrops to create depth and texture. I just love how drapery look gives it an authentic look.
We discussed her clothing choices. She was inspired by the goth style, and we used this as inspiration for the shoot. We incorporated her personal style into the shoot, capturing her personality and unique style. Check her white dress, I LOVE the contrast.
During the post-editing process, I wanted to ensure that the moodiness and dramatic look we captured during the session were emphasized in the final images. While staying true to my personal style, I added more contrast to the images to really make them pop. I love how this technique made the images stand out and feel more impactful. One of my favorite parts of the post-editing process was working with the black and white images. I found that converting some of the images to black and white made them feel even more dramatic and intense. I loved how this technique emphasized the emotional depth and seriousness of the images. In my personal opinion, the black and white are my favorite!
I always strive to create images that my clients will love and cherish for years to come, and I'm thrilled that the final images from this Studio Senior session achieved just that. Capturing her personality, emotions, and style was truly a rewarding experience, and I'm grateful to have been a part of it. As a photographer, it's important to not only match your client's personality during the session but also bring out their personality during the post-editing process, WHILE staying true to your signature style. This way, the final images will truly be a reflection of who they are and what they stand for.
