Holiday mini session inspiration

I'm usually out there capturing those untimed family moments, surrounded by the great outdoors (check out these gems!). But when the holiday season rolls in, it's like my golden ticket to step into the magical world of indoor studio sessions. It's not just about snapping photos; it's about creating an entire experience! With a mix of minimalism, neutrals, trendy vibes, and a sprinkle of nostalgia, my goal is to give clients the most unique holiday cards that'll have their friends and family doing double takes. Keep reading for your next dose of holiday mini session inspiration!

Christmas photoshoot props ideas:

Even though those green screens and premade backdrops can look fabulous I have always shied away from them. I feel there is definitely something magical about using real props. And let me tell you, it's a challenge! The whole process of bringing these holiday-themed studio sessions to life? It's like mixing a potion of creativity, planning, and just a smidge of magic. Unlike my usual untimed family sessions that are held outdoors, these indoor setups demand attention to every detail, from the backdrop to the props.

Holiday mini session prop and backdrop ideas: Use a Neon Sign!

Now, let's talk trends, my friends! This year, I got smitten by the neon sign bug. I wanted to bring this inspo from my days in wedding photography, and I thought, why not sprinkle that magic on my families? A neon sign brings that wow (and fun!) factor, not just for my families but for all the pals and kin who get that holiday card! It just looks so cool and to be completely honest I have rarely seen this done on family cards.

Think about fresh greens for your next holiday mini session inspiration!

And when it comes to greens, I put my foot down. No fake trees for me this year! I went for the real thing because nothing says magic like the smell of fresh greens. It's like bringing the forest indoors, and who wouldn't want a slice of that enchantment? So when you are planning for your next holiday mini session think about using REAL things.

Choosing a holiday photo color scheme

So, when it comes to colors, I always love a neutral palette, but thinking about color theory here,  throwing  in a pop of color really helps bring focus onto your theme. For this holiday mini session inspiration, I knew the greens would bring that burst of life however I also chose black as a secondary statement color. And let's talk textures! Disco balls were just floating around in the trend pool, and I thought, "That's it! That's the holiday sparkle vibe I need!" It's like magic when everything just clicks, and I had this vision that's pure holiday enchantment! 🎄✨
