Where to Take Christmas Tree Family Photos: Black Road Christmas Tree Farms

The holidays are the time to get cute (and “oh wow!”)  photos, with all the sparkly lights, decorated trees, and cozy cute Christmas-y socks (you know you want to wear them..am I right?). But finding the right tree farm for your photos? Not always so fun-o-wonderland prancing in the cute gingerbread patterned socks.

If you’re asking, “Where to take Christmas tree family photos?” you’re in luck—I’ve got the perfect spot. And guess what? It’s free! (raise the roof time).

Each year, Black Road Christmas Tree Farms are the most generous farmers in the area, by opening up their farm for one weekend just for photos before tree-cutting season starts.

No tickets, no reservations—just a free and fabulous Christmas-y wonderland.

I know, I know. I’ve done studio minis in past years for that unique indoor look, but this year, I couldn’t resist going back to the classic charm of the tree farm.

And trust me, I had all the same concerns you do: where do we go? Will they let us take photos, or will we drive all that way to find out it’s a no-go? (Spoiler: No worries here.)

What I Love About This Place:

  • Quick and Easy to Get To: Just 20 minutes from San Jose, with parking close by. No need to hike in holiday attire.

  • Fun, Festive Vibes: While you’ll be surrounded by other families, photographers, and plenty of DIYers with their iPhones, you are surrounded by the coolest and merriest community ever. We are all trying to do one thing amongst the Christmas trees, and you can literally feel Christmas in the air.

Planning Ahead

They usually hold this photo open house the first weekend of November, but heads up—they don’t confirm the exact dates until just a couple of weeks before. So keep that weekend open and stay tuned!

Bring your family, your holiday spirit, and maybe even a thermos of hot cocoa for extra cheer—it’s an easy, festive spot that could just become your new holiday tradition.
