Why Candid Family Photography Tell Your Family's Story Best
You're at the dinner table, and your rambunctious little boy, in all seriousness, makes the silliest comment without even realizing it. This actually happened to us! My boy once said, "Yeah, we are doing the ‘honor-cycle'." There was a brief pause, and then giggles erupted around the table. The laughter only lasted about 10 seconds, but it’s something we’ll probably bring up to our friends for the rest of our family’s life because it was just the cutest thing ever (just like I am doing now).
Have a similar story?
Let’s take a little deep dive into why we couldn’t stop laughing at this comment. There are a few reasons. First, it was adorable how he mispronounced "honor system," but also because he was so confident that he was wise enough to truly understand what the honor system is. Hilarious, right? But also a little telling, isn't it?
He’d clearly picked up on some of the conversations we adults had been having. These types of playful family stories really make me think about the subtle ways our family values and experiences shape these little moments.
These "moments between moments" happen so often in our lives. Sure, we have the big milestone family moments, but these small, miniature “fun stories” are what glue everything together. How? Authentically! I truly believe it’s these small, spontaneous moments that make every family unique.
And that’s where I come in! You need someone to capture these unforgettable, authentic moments. In our sessions, we plan the best time and place to set the stage for these kinds of interactions, while I’m there with my camera. We’ve gotta catch 'em all—winks. (I do love my Pikachu)
Now, I know what you’re thinking: "There’s no way my kids are going to be little angels making cute comments in front of you." And trust me, I get it—mine aren’t either. But that’s where a little help with gentle posing and fun prompts comes in. There’s always a warm-up period, but once we get into the groove, those “honor-cycle” moments start rolling in naturally.
Seriously, leave the superposed “smile at the camera” photos for the school picture folks. We’re here to capture candid family photography —those moments between moments—that you’ll share with friends and family for years to come! So, what’s your “honor-cycle” story? Let’s catch 'em all!
