Should I get an album for my Family Photo?

Artists don’t produce these profound paintings and masterful pieces of work just to close it up and store it in the attic, so why do you? What good does it does it do, if you had paid for a family session, planned painstakingly (but easy with me) your photoshoot, and lugged your photoshoot hater husband (but converted afterwards), and received photos that you actually love, for you to just digitally store them in the wild wild digital universe?

Let us chat about how easy it is to get your most cherished beautiful ALBUM-worthy photos into a piece of artwork you can display in your gallery, aka your home sweet home.

When you book an untimed session  with me, it comes with it. So the problem is solved there. No really, it is as simple as that. You don’t have to scramble anymore, say goodbye to scrambled messes. I wanted to talk about why tho. (Why are we always talking about the “whys?”. Ugh, this reminds me of college). I digress.

The showdown of album vs prints

Doing prints all the time, you are going to run out of space. Let’s say your kid is only 2, this is not going to be like your wedding photos. What I mean is, you don’t do wedding photos every year and capture milestones of it, but for your family you will. I mean you are stuck with them for 18 years (nowadays with these kids probably longer).

A not so small but not so big album that sits nicely on your coffee table does not scream “HEY LOOK AT HOW MUCH COOLER MY FAMILY IS THAN YOURS” even though it is true. Let’s consider albums almost as humble beings, they don’t need a lot of space to be happy and well loved.

Personally, I feel it could be a tad bit eccentric to blast your walls with just your own family photos. When a guest comes over, it's like you're yelling from the rooftop, I mean walls to them “LOOK AT ME NOW!”.

Again, imagine a not so small, perfectly sized album sitting on your shelf, politely saying “flip through only if you want” (most of them will want to though). 6x6, in my opinion, is the perfect size. Although you can upgrade, any bigger you compete with your wedding album, honestly.

A physical heirloom, thing you can pass down

Do you remember the countless videotapes from your childhood that have been passed down to you. Right now they are showcased beautifully on the shelf of your basement somewhere probably accentuated with some spiderwebs. Are those being watched? The answer is probably no.

On the contrary, a photo book as basic as disposable prints slid into a premade album is probably sitting on the shelf visibly somewhere. Most likely, you have flipped through them, or a kid or two has pulled one out and pointed at a goofy photo of grandpa. I know this is true in my case.

Don’t put your kids to misery and pass down a bunch of usb drives, pass down a physical album. They are just never going to be appreciated as much as an album. A physical, beautiful gallery in an album would be the heirloom thing you can pass to your children and they will be viewed and appreciated.

All this to say, not only will your great (x10) grandchildren get to see you because the albums that come from the untimed session will last (yes they are built to last even longer), but they will be printed and be appreciated starting from the day it's printed. So.. "Should I get an album for my Family Photo?"
